• New Jersey Devils Alumni Play Pond Hockey for LifeCamp

  • On Saturday, January 27th, the Essex Hunt Club in Peapack New Jersey hosted Kyle Palmieri and eight of some of the Devils Alumni’s greatest players for two events. The Alumni included Jim Dowd, Colin White, Bruce Driver, Scott Stevens, Ken Danyeko, Marek Zidlicky, Tommy Albelin and Grant Marshall.

The Alum and Kyle Palmieri ran two 45-minute clinics for Squirts, PeeWee and U-12 Girl hockey players. The clinics were followed by an opportunity for the players and their families to ask the players for autographs and take pictures. The second event was a Pond Hockey tournament, aka “The EHC/NJD/LifeCamp Winter Classic”. Each of the eight Devils Alumni captained a team of six players – one NJD Alum and five amateurs. There were two divisions (Over 35 and Over 50) consisting of four teams per division. Each team played a round robin of three 10-minute games within their division. At the conclusion of the round robin, the top two teams in each division held a playoff game to determine the division winners. A cocktail reception and dinner followed for all of the participants and their guests.

This was the second year for the EHC/NJD/LifeCamp Winter Classic. In addition to being terrific fun it was also a fundraiser for LifeCamp. LifeCamp is a six week summer day camp for children ages 6-13 from greater Newark. Three-hundred children come out to the camp, located in Pottersville, each day Monday to Friday throughout the summer, where they learn to swim & ride bikes in addition to participating in academic and artistic activities. The Winter Classic was not only an opportunity for some to play with their hockey hero’s – it was a chance for all to be hero’s for the LifeCamp campers.

    Go Devils!
